Under Paintings

Last weekend I continued with the sketching and manipulations (the first 3 below) that  I had began last week. I think they have been very helpful and given me a direction to go in as a I move into paint. I think this transition will help me figure out exactly how I want to use the source information.











These are the beginnings of under paintings that will be inspired by some of the sketches and manipulations. They are in the beginning stages and I hope to have a better foundation on each in the next couple of days.

    I’m glad that you started painting. It’s hard for me to tell much from the pictures (thought I’m glad you posted them.) I’d like to talk with you about what your intention is with the underpainting and also about color. Often, underpainting is in order to have a color show through the overlayers. Sometimes a bright color lays under a duller or darker one. But I can't tell from looking at this online if this is what you're doing.I have two artists to recommend to you to look at. One is Kim Berman, a South African printmaker who is concerned with landscape and displacement and the other is Shona MacDonald who is involved with landscape and displacement as well.
