Semester 2 Week 11
This week I have spent most of my time thinking about the matting and the framing of my project. I looked at some less expensive frames but have decided the original one I bought is better. I am now in the process of trying to get my hands on enough of them. I have also been trying to figure out what color mat I need. I bought mat board and cut some myself but the color was too much of an off white. Today, I spoke with Randy Parrish about mats. He was able to find a color that I think works well and tomorrow I am going to drop off several of my drawings so I can get fourteen mats cut.
Also I have spent a lot of time thinking about the arrangement of the drawings. Originally, I was thinking I would have twenty drawings displayed in a grid. After discussion today, I am thinking of cutting it down to twelve or fourteen (or possibly cutting it even more) of the stronger drawings in a two line arrangement. I have been using photoshop to not only help me figure out the arrangement of all of the drawings but also the actual placement of each drawing, thinking specifically about how they work with the drawings around them.
Here are some that I have been working on.

Next week, I want to have all of the physical framing and matting issues sorted out so I can spend the rest of my time with touching up any drawings that need it and the arrangement of the drawings.

Semester 2 Week 10
I've been thinking a lot about how I will be framing, matting, and hanging my drawings. I bought a black frame which I like and now I need to figure out how the mat will work. The mat that came with the frame is white and makes the paper look very yellow. Hopefully I will be able to find a mat that matches the color of the paper.
Also I continued drawing...
One more image to come.

Semester 2 Week 7
Drawing, drawing, and more drawing.
This week I began to think a lot about how all of the drawings will work together. As I move forward, I want to make sure that I am making new drawings that will help the viewer move easier throughout the drawings when seen as a whole.
None of these are 100% finished.

Semester 2 Week 6
This week I continued to draw. I also had the opportunity to talk with both David Chung and Endi Poskovic, which was extremely helpful. Both sets up conversations really made me think about composition and content for my drawings.
For next week I want to continue drawing keeping the comments they made in mind.
2 new drawings (both not entirely finished) and 1 redo of a previous drawing (I changed some of the left and am also not sure if it needs more work.)

Semester 2 Week 5
Images to come..(I am having technical problems)
This week I continued to work on drawing. This is a start of a new image. The figure is very prominent; I want to work on making her fade more into the background.
This week I also learned the process of photo lithography. I liked the idea of multiples so I thought this could be an interesting way to explore this. I made a photolitho plate of one of my earlier drawings that I think is successful. I then attempted to print the plate. This proved difficult however because since the lines are very small in places the holes kept flooding. On Tuesday, I had Amanda help me print again. It was great printing with her and seeing how she approaches the process. Although the results were better there was still areas that were getting too dark. After speaking with Ana, she suggested that ink I was using was too greasy and told me another mixture to use. In the coming week I want to try out this mixture and see how it improves the printing process.
(Images to come)
I also did more artist research this week paying particular attention to line work. I looked at the work of Gustave Dore and Fran Goya, buying two great books that include their work. Although they are printmakers, the line work in there prints are absolutely beautiful. Also some of the fantastically imagery was very inspiring and easy to relate to my own drawings.

Semester 2 Week 4
This week I continued to redraw drawings that I am not completely satisfied with. The actually drawing itself proved to be a little slower then it has been in the past because I am really trying to pay attention to the marks made.
I am not sure how I feel about this completed image. I think that the top section working better than the original although it is very similar, but I think I need to change the trees some leaving a little more white space.
This drawing needs to be completed this week.
I also did some research about different marks I could be making. I did this by both looking at other drawings and a few how to draw books. In my critique it was said that the most successful have a variety of marks. I want to make sure I remember this as I am working.
These are some illustration drawings by artist Philip Harris. The pen marks are beautiful and I really connect to the silliness of the content.
In the coming week, I want to continue to redraw but also make some new drawings as well.

Semester 2 Week 3
This week I continued to work on drawings.
After I made this drawing there were areas that I did not think were working. I have began another of the same image, fixing areas that are not working and drawing those that are working the same.
I also worked on some close up detailed abstract sections of previous drawings.
Next week I want to continue making new drawings and also redrawing ones where I think there are problematic areas.

Semester 2 Week 2
This week I continued to work on my drawings. Especially after our small groups, I realize that I need to pay more attention to certain areas and how I am making marks. There are definitely certain places that the marks that I have made do not work. In my past drawings, I want to identify these areas and on a new piece of paper redraw those to make them more successful as well as redrawing those that are working in the same manner so that the drawing as a whole works better.
I think some of the work on the central figure could be improved.
On this second drawing I like the trees but I am not happy with how the figures came out. I want to work on these so that they will work better.
I also worked on a linoleum block print based on one of my past drawings.
Draft of Thesis ~ 5 hours

2nd Semester
As the end of last semester, I was feeling more drawn to the drawings I had been doing then the paintings. After my presentation, I felt much better about exploring and continuing in this direction. Over break I worked on several more new drawings continuing to play with the ideas of enchantment. It was also suggested during my presentation that the drawings were very reminiscent of A Midsummer's Night Dream. I reread the play, which has always been one of my favorites, trying to think about the fusion of reality and fantasy and how this could apply to my work.
For this coming week, I want to finish the last two drawings and continue to make more thinking not only about what I'm drawing but also the marks that I am making with the pen, especially how the different types of mark making relate to each other.
